We are often asked about some form of regular Zen training or study. Of course daily zazen is essential; generally it is supported by study and practice. This program of courses offers a comprehensive introduction to the core teachings of Appamada. We will introduce both traditional and contemporary teachings with a focus on their practical application in our everyday lives and our spiritual path.
There are no prerequisites. Although there is a general sequence, each course is a standalone course that may be taken independently. This series of courses is not a ladder or a linear path. It is like a set of pillars sunk deep in the ground for a foundation that supports a house and keeps it level, stable, and strong.
Classes include brief lectures, practice exercises, some central texts or readings, and writing. They are intended to complement your ongoing daily sitting practice.
